Skip the preamble in order not to fail during the presentation

Opening statements like these are counterproductive for your presentation:

  • I’m nervous
  • I hate microphones
  • I’m not very good in front of crowds
  • I will do my best to inform you
  • Please forgive me

Especially, don’t apologize or come up with excuses for your ability as a speaker, Because, you’re alerting both your audience and yourself that you intend to fail, or at the best, you plan to be boring.

How to Get the Most Out of Every Negotiation

How to Get the Most Out of Every Negotiation

Negotiation skill is a key for success in business and life. You may become a better negotiator by following some very simple rules.

When you’re in business, you negotiate every day of the week. While you may not be negotiating million-dollar deals with customers or vendors, chances are you’re negotiating all sorts of things-from a raise, to a flexible work schedule, to a plum assignment on a product development team.

Negotiation is a skill that gets better with practice. The more you negotiate, the more comfortable you’ll be and the better your skills. There are certain negotiation tips that can quickly move you from amateur to pro status. Give these a try the next time you find yourself in a negotiation, and you will exceed your expectations every time.

1.Listen to people

Listening is the biggest and most important part of the negotiation. It’s what allows you to understand what’s going on in the other person’s head. Saying less and listening more puts you in a position of power during a negotiation because the other person is giving you more information than you’re giving them.

2. Never say ok to a proposal the first time you hear it

The fact is, most negotiators make an initial offer that is lower than the number that they are prepared to settle for. It’s just an expected part of the negotiation game. When someone makes an offer, think it over first and don’t be too desperate to accept it. If the offer doesn’t meet your needs, then make a counteroffer that does.

3. Conduct the negotiation at your site or at a neutral location

You put the other party at an advantage when you agree to conduct the negotiation at their offices. Try to schedule negotiations at your offices whenever possible. At worst case, pick a neutral location that evens the playing field.

4. Don’t be the first to name a price

Keep remembering. The first party to name a price is the one that ends up losing. Push the other party to do most of the talking and to reveal exactly what it is that they’re looking for and the outline of a possible deal.

5. Do deal only with decision makers

It’s a waste of your time to negotiate with people who don’t have the authority to agree to a deal. Whenever possible, push to negotiate with the person who is in the position to say “Yes.”

6. Don’t negotiate with yourself

When you make a proposal to another party, give them time to consider it and respond. Don’t be so impatient that you lower your price even before they have a chance to respond.

7. Be poker face

Some negotiations can get very heated; however, when you lose your cool, then you’re going to make mistakes. Not only that, but you reduce the chances of getting the deal that you want. Always be professional, and keep your emotions and temper in check.

8. Check body language cues

The body language is a major variable when it comes to interpersonal communication. Subtle cues, like the excessive blinking of the eyes or an uncomfortable shift in a chair, can give you major insight into what’s going on in the other person’s mind and you can organize your next move.

9. Do say no

The most powerful word you can utter in any negotiation is “No.” If you’re not satisfied with a proposal, then don’t hesitate to use it.

10. Never be intimidated

Remember: The other party needs you as much as you need them. Refuse to be intimidated.

11. Do seek win-win outcomes

Every party in a negotiation should be a winner. When you’ve got a win-lose situation, the outcome is imbalanced, and long-term relationships will be damaged. Seek win-win outcomes that will build your business relationships, not destroy them.

How to Make a Killer Presentation

How many terrible PowerPoint presentations have you endured during your lifetime? While they may be the standard method of selling, informing, training or otherwise communicating key messages to important audiences, they’re easy to screw up. So what we should do to make a killer presentation.

  1. Create and maintain a slide library.

In other words, why spend time designing content someone in your organization likely already has created? Keep all your presentations in one central place using presentation management software, search for the content you need, update it if you need to and save whatever you’ve done in the slide library. The trick is to save slides individually with tags under categories, such as “company background,” “financials,” “services,” or “case studies.” When saving slides, make sure to include the date they were last updated so that everyone uses the most up-to-date slide.

  1. Include video and multi-media content.

There’s a reason people love YouTube. Video engages people. And if you can get your audience engaged you’re halfway to selling your message. What won’t hook them? A presentation composed of only bullet points. Just don’t overuse video or multimedia content–it can’t read a crowd and adjust focus depending on an audience’s reaction.

  1. Ask your audience questions.

It’s another way to get them engaged. Plus, it lets you gauge the audience’s interests and comprehension so you can react and tailor your pitch to better reel them in.

  1. Pause during remote presentations.

When you’re presenting to someone in another location you often can’t read their non-verbal cues. Build enough time into your presentation to stop every few minutes to gauge understanding and ask your audience if they have questions.

  1. Avoid putting too much content on a slide.

People can read or they can listen, but not both simultaneously. And, they can likely read faster than you can present. If so, not only are they not listening to you, but they are ahead of you. Too much content also can handicap a presenter if he or she ends up reading from a slide. No one wants to hear you read. They can read it themselves. Presenters can use speaker notes, but your voice should be used to give context to the content.

Essentials of a Business Case in English

Define a Business Case

A business case brings together the benefits, disadvantages, costs, and risks of the current situation and future vision so that executive management can decide if the new project should go ahead.

When to Use a Business Case

The business case is needed when resource or expenditure on a project has to be justified. Approval is usually sought from the project sponsor and other interested parties.

For instance, the finance function may authorize funds and the IT department provides resources.

Is the Project Worth Doing?

Why are you starting a project?

Probably you’re doing it because you need to solve a problem.

Usually, the problem is something that gets in the way of achieving your goals. So it seems a project is about achieving goals and your goals won’t be realized unless you deal with the problem (or opportunity or circumstance).

If a project is worth doing you need to answer 4 simple questions:

  1. What is your goal?
  2. What’s stopping you from reaching the goal?
  3. How much change is needed to overcome the problem?
  4. Are you certain this will solve the problem?

Now, can you answer these questions quickly? Do you have evidence to support or refute your assumptions?

If not, it may not be worth starting a project.

Crafting a Business Case

The purpose of the business case is communication. Therefore, each section should be written in the parlance of the intended audience.

Moreover, it should only contain enough information to help decision making. When writing a business case, keep the following in mind:

  • The document should be brief and convey only the bare essentials,
  • Make it interesting, clear and concise,
  • Eliminate conjecture and minimize jargon,
  • Describe your vision of the future,
  • Demonstrate the value and benefits the project brings to the business, and
  • Keep the number of authors to a minimum to ensure consistent style and readability.

The project sponsor is responsible for preparing the business case. However, all appropriate team members should contribute to its development. Likewise, subject matter experts from other functions ― finance, HR, IT, service delivery, and so on ― can provide specialist information.

What’s more, those writing the business case should have a thorough understanding of the project’s aims and be able to merge the varied and potentially complex plans into one document using the following business case template.

The Business Case Template

What follows are the four steps to preparing a perfect business case template for your project.

It includes the following four sections:

  1. Executive Summary
  2. Finance
  3. Project Definition
  4. Project Organization
Section Section Heading Question Answered
1 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
2 FINANCE
2.1 Financial Appraisal How much?
2.2 Sensitivity Analysis How much?
3 PROJECT DEFINITION
3.1 Background Information Why?
3.2 Business Objective Why?
3.3 Benefits and Limitations Why?
3.4 Option Identification and Selection What?
3.5 Scope, Impact, and Interdependencies What?
3.6 Outline Plan What? When? Who?
3.7 Market Assessment Context?
3.8 Risk Assessment Context?
3.9 Project Approach How?
3.10 Purchasing Strategy How?
4 PROJECT ORGANISATION
4.1 Project Governance How? Who?
4.2 Progress Reporting How?

Summary

In this article we showed you the main points of writing a proper business case. The most important point is that the business case should be concise and to the point. Therefore, keep the intended audience in mind when preparing each section and include supporting information in an appendix. This will enable you to outline effectively the business rationale for undertaking a project.

Yazının başlığı her şeyin belirleyicisidir. E-postanın okunmak için açılıp açılmayacağına başlık karar verdirir. Hedefi on ikiden vuran başlıklar merak uyandırır.

Saygılarımla” Bunun anlamı, sizinle çalışmaya her zaman hazırım demek olacaktır.
